Learn moreGulden Leeuw
So we left off on Friday on our way to the Gulden Leeuw for breakfast. It was docked just below our stores, and was very lovely. So lovely, in fact, that Oliver and I briefly discussed how amazing it would be to have a kind of floating extension to the yarn store, in the form of a beautiful Tall Ship. Brilliant plan. Anyhow, back to reality. All the ships left for Norway yesterday after being delayed for a day due to bad weather (shocker). The skyline looks strangely empty. But... there are still lots of visitors around, including Varian Brandon who popped in to see us with her current projects this morning. x
Learn moreA little bit of Japan, and a thankyou
At Jamieson & Smith we sometimes get little thankyou notes and photos, and we're always a little bit taken aback with how thoughtful our customers are. This is the latest little token, some green cherry straight from Japan. It made us think about how important it is to say thankyou as often as we can, and mean it. So from all at Jamieson & Smith, thankyou for supporting our woolly Shetland wool, and for being so cute. x

Learn moreAaaw, too cute
There was a little girl in the J&S yarn store the other day wearing the most gorgeous Shetland Lace bonnet in 2ply lace weight, secured with ribbons under her little chin. It instantly reminded us of this too cute bairns cockleshell scarf in 2ply Lace Weight on the Shetland Museum and Archives Photo Library. Doesn't it make you think of a little cutie pie toddling off to school wrapped up in a wool coat and a hat, complete with scarf? We think it's something about the combination of the shape and the old fashioned colours (I'm thinking L1, L3 AND L4) that is so evocative. Have a peep here at our cockleshell stole kit. Remember you can mix and match shades from the 2ply Lace Weight collection, or the 1 ply Cobweb, and pop them in the 'Delivery and Order Options' box at checkout. My two favourite cockleshells are a short scarf that tucks in to a jacket collar in blues and browns, and a really wide, really long one in black jumper weight yarn.Oh so versatile, the old cockleshell!x

At last... Yummy treats for your couch, or bed, or wherever, from Emma Blain of Aamos Designs (the newest addition to the J&S Cooperative). These cushions work alone as a slice of colour, or together as a bold design statement. In her studio in Scalloway, Emma conjures up playful contemporary handwoven textiles using bold colour, while both exploiting and honouring weaving traditions. Aamos designs were recently featured at the National Museums Scotland's 'Gifted' exhibition, which showcases the best of Scotland's creative minds.
